Music Monday

On Thursday I am going to see Mr. Anthony Green perform at a local venue. I'm pretty excited. This will be the third time I have seen him. Living in Austin really spoils you. I guess that's why it's called the live music capital of the world!

Here is my favorite song off of his latest album "beautiful things". Nate from Fun is on this song also. It's so darn catchy!

Home Remedy: Clean Microwave

Wanna know how to get a microwave clean, fast? Well I did, so I hopped onto pinterest and searched for a quick & dirty way to clean one's microwave. Well this crafty little gnome posted a great idea! Simply put a bowl filled with water and a little bit of vinegar in the microwave for a couple of minutes (3 minutes sufficed pour moi). Carefully take the bowl out and wipe down your microwave. No scrubbing required! It seriously was so easy and is my new favorite way to clean the microwave. Not like I really had a favorite way before, but you get it, right? Right.
Thankfully I did not take a before picture of my dirty microwave (G never puts lids on things), but here are the afters!

Happy cleaning :)

I officially suck as of late.

So I got home from Know?Show and have been playing the wonderful game of catch-up. And by wonderful I mean terrible, no fun, dreadful game. But now I've decided to be a real rebel and put the homework on the back burner to blog a little. To start I want to show you one of the youngest, most ridiculously beautiful and cute models I have ever seen. I am positive she could snag my bf from me...and she is 10. Thylane-rose

DIY pillows

These are officially the easiest pillows I have ever made. Well, I may or may not (emphasis on the not) actually made that many pillows, but these were easy! My sister even made some! I found the tutorial here. The instructions were simple and I literally made 2 pillows in 20 minutes!
Please excuse the poor quality of these pictures, I swear the pillows look legit in real life!

They are currently on my grey couch in the living room, and they look fabulous.  My next diy venture is painting chevron stripes on fabric and making those into pillows! That tutorial can be found here. I will post pictures of the final product! Happy DIYing :)

tea time + DIY tea bags

I have a little obsession with tea. I can't help it. It's so beauTEAful (get it?)and relaxing and healthy! I love iced tea in the summer, especially a local company, Sweet Leaf. You need to check them out and try some! You won't be disappointed.
Not only am I obsessed with tea but I am obsessed with tea cups! Husband has put me on a strict no tea/tea cup buying regime for the new year. so far so good..... until I saw these beauTEAful (okay, I'll stop) tea cups and bags!

Okay, enough tea-merch. Onto the DIY! How adorable are these DIY tea bags? Just in time for Valentine's day :)

You can find the cute tutorial here (happens to be one of my favorite blogs, too!)

School, Trade Show, Hosiery

This whole back to school business has been killing my motivation for everything and anything. This is the first week that I've managed to bring myself to do hmwrk. School you've killed all my good vibes!! Anyways few things to share. Tomorrow I am leaving to Know?Show, which is a trade show full of fashion and accessories. It is pretty amazing, lots of work, but great people and great events happening while it goes on. Alsoooo, I made my first ebay purchase a couple weeks ago, a pair of leggings, and I am so happy with my purchase so I decided this seller needs some recognition! Check it out Joy Hosiery.

These are the ones I purchased!! :)

homemade tortilla soup

Oh hey there! Hope you're having a fantabulous weekend (fantastic + fabulous... I'm sure it's a word, somewhere). Anyway, if you're anything like me, you like this to be quick and dirty. Not really dirty, but just simple, right? Right. Well, do I have the recipe for you... my mama's homemade tortilla soup! I'm not sure where the recipe originated from, and I've adapted it to my liking. But if you're out there somewhere, Mrs. BestTortillaSoupRecipeMakerEver, then I give you credit. Lots of it. Ok, ready? Of course you are.  **Warning** this recipe is the most approximate recipe you may ever experience. You'll hear terms like "a whole lot", or "just a little bit". I apologize, but this is how I do***

You'll need the following:

A whole lotta chicken or veggie broth, I use about a carton and a half of these babies.

A little chili powder, cumin, and salt and peppa.

1 bunch of cilantro, 4 tomatoes, an onion, 1 jalapeno (I use 2; I like it spicy), and 2 garlic cloves.

Cooking Directions:
1. Pour broth into a pot on medium heat and and cumin and chili powder.

 2. Cut tomatoes into quarters and throw them into a food processor. Yes, I hate tomatoes but you can't taste them in the soup, scouts honor. Once processed to your liking, add to the broth mixture.

 3. Wash and take stems off of cilantro, add garlic and onions and process it like it's your job.

(This is what it will look like once processed. I wish you could smell this right now.. so good)
4. Add mixture to your tomatoes and broth already cooking on the stove.

 5. This is what it will look like. Not the most appetizing-looking soup, but I assure you, it is amazing.

6.Garnish with fresh cilantro and cheese.. and love your life.

Yummm.. I want some more right now! Enjoy :)

....and I'm back

And so I survived the trip and will have some fun photos to show soon. The trip was amazing, my life went like this: 9am wake-up snowboard all day, 4pm hot tub and steam, 8pm drink and party til 1:30am...repeat for 4 days. I definitely recommend getting that bender out of you before school starts. Anyways, I think I am going to stop being a baby and stop being afraid of regrets and just get a tattoo already. I know the areas I want, and some tattoo ideas, and so I've decided I am just going to go somewhere and say, "ink me." Dare I? and now I will leave you with a sweet az photo.

organization for the nation part 2.

I am on an organizing rampage! My kitchen has had a major makeover, I hope it appreciates me.
Remember way back in the day when I posted this? Namely, this wonderful idea for pot lids?

Well, I live in an apartment, so I couldn't exactly go drilling up my cupboards with fancy-dancy organizing tools, so I went to Walmart and found my own, less invasive version. Wanna see before and after pictures? Of course you do.
WARNING: THOU SHALL NOT JUDGE THE MESSINESS OF THE BEFORE PICTURES. thanks :).

Before
After! See the beautiful pots all lined up in the back?

Before
After! Ahhhh.

Everything always feels better when it's organized. I feel better, do you feel better?

you should.

hike & bike

Happy New Year!!! Have fun on your snowboarding trip, Big S! I'll do my best to hold down the blog-fort. I can't promise it'll be pretty... but it will be held down. to the ground.

Anywhoo, how are the resolutions going? I am kicking some serious boot-ay so far! G and I have tested out our new shoes hiking and biking. So. Much. Fun. I love living in a city where there is beautiful scenery AND beautiful weather in December which is conducive to winter bike riding.
Here are some pictures from our recent adventures:

Most comfortable shoes ever

So much fun! Hope y'all are enjoying the first few days of the new year!

Sunday, January 1, 2012

I am off to Kicking Horse tomorrow to go snowboarding!! I am going on the ride or die trip, and if I don't post in approximately two weeks...I died. Tonight I think I will watch Art of Flight just to get me pumped up and ready to go...that means I should probably pack sometime tonight too. W will have to hold down the blog while I am away.. it won't be the same without me, but she's my other half, so I know she has it covered. Hopefully I will come back with some amazing photos. Theme parties for the nights there include: full moon party, the older the better, and wings optional (wear a tank, or wear a sleeved shirt and if someone rips your sleeves off they buy you a drink!!) Obviously I am layering up on shirts with sleeves, free drinksssss!! Bye!!
